February activites in detail
- We selected two songs and 5 books to do and read through this month. The songs were Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, and Days of the week action song with clap, stomp and tap.
- This month we had sick days too when we stuck to coloring and bubbles. We are also trying to do more outdoor time during weekends as that keeps him entertained and he enjoys being outdoors or even just the car.
- Color the groundhog- Colored a printout and made up sounds and movements for it.
- We dropped color water with a dropper on a paper towel. It spreads beautifully and once dry I tied it in the middle with a string so that it looked like a butterfly. We made big and small butterflies this way.
- Snowman: I used cardboard cutout for Snow man and we stuck cotton balls on it for snow. We stuck cut outs of hands, scarf and hat on it and used three round stickers on the belly.
- Mixed 4 pairs of differently colored socks and we found matches for each one. Just a heads up- I found it is easy to lose patience on this one so maybe start with small number of pairs!
- I had pictures of dolphin, differently colored and size fish, dolphin, turtle and shark that I put in a pillow case and he could place them on a blue color paper as the “water”. We also sang Baby Shark and ‘I had a little turtle’.
- Hot and Cold: I just filled two bowls- one with warm water and the other with ice and cold water and we took turns dipping our hands into each and drying our hands.
- Bingo: I had a printout of pictures, 2 of each that we could match. I used bubbles each time he found a match. Attention lasted for around 4 matches and then he quickly moved on!
- Valentine craft: just stuck a bunch of stickers on a big heart cutout of cardboard.
- Paint: I had some watercolor mixed with water on a plate and we just dipped a brush into it and mixed into a bowl of water. He didn’t want to apply on paper so left out that part!
- Custard making: He helped me cut the fruits and loved eating it too!
- Tried out a gummy making recipe I found online with strawberry, juice and gelatin powder. I had heart shaped moulds so we used that. He didn't love the taste so will try a better recipe next time but he loved sipping the juice and watching me.
- We spent Valentines evening dressed up, with takeout food, playing his toys and taking lots of pictures!
- Colored snow- I had some food dye solution in a squirt bottle to spray on snow outside but he wasn't in the mood so we came in and played with his tractors. I also set out some rice powder in water for his tractors to scoop and dump.
- I tied a scarf around one of the cardboard boxes and filled it with some of his toys. We shouted Go and then pulled the box to one end of the hall and would stop when I said the word Stop.
- Band aid the monkey- Sang one little monkey jumping on the bed and bumped different body parts so that I could point out that body part and we used band aids to put on that part.
- Pulling the animals: Tied a string around some plastic animals and a popsicle stick on the other end. Pull the animals closer by pulling the string on them. We then danced the animals up and down and spun them with the thread.
- Animal bath: A muffin tray, some squirt bottles, a sponge, a towel and some plastic animals!
- He is very into painters tape right now. So I stuck some from one chair to another and we put pompoms on the sticky side. Could also do popsicle sticks to make a bridge.
- Painter's tape game: Used his help to cut out bits of tape and we stuck them on his/my fingers and toes.
