March Activities in Detail

  •  I just propped up the play mat over two chairs and we played with a flashlight and pretend food stuff. He enjoyed popping in and out of the makeshift tent.
  • We had a pretend doctor set to play pretend doctor.
  • Sensory bins: just popped in some pompoms in a baking tray filled with water and a few spoons. He enjoyed scooping the pompoms out, squeezing the water out of them and then soaking them again.
  • Bingo: Printed out some pairs of pictures and get him to pick matching pictures, reward is bubbles!
  • Lorax: Made a hand puppet lorax to dance and jump to celebrate Dr.Seuss birthday! We also tried watching the Lorax story on YouTube but patience ran out quickly and we watched around 10-15 minutes of it.
  • Cocomelon song Sorry Excuse me with actions was a big hit this week. This month we also had 'One Potato, Two Potato' and 'I like to eat eat eat Apples and Bananas' from Cocomelon on loop in the house!
  • Had a printout of teeth and stuck some cellotape over it, marked black dots with sketchpen and had him brush it out with an old brush. The sketchpen stained the brush fast and that led to just getting black smeared all over so I had to use a wet paper towel and wipe brush and picture at intervals.
  • Bought a set of feathers from dollar store and had him insert them into a strainer vessel. We also tried tickling the tummy and face with the feathers.
  • St. Patrick's Day:
    • Printed out a Leprechaun and stuck on a cardboard box. Made a cut at the mouth so that he could insert tiny shamrocks into the slot. He loved this one!
    • We also made a sensory bin with green and golden shamrocks, coins and a chain, all obtained from the dollar store.
  • Holi Special: We made handprints on paper plates with some color and water spray.
  • Hockey: Foam bats to beat balls into an enclosing under the chair. Reward: bubbles! This got a lot of giggles!
  • Recycling song- we watched an episode on Cocomelon Lane about recycling.
  • Favorite book that week was- 10 little fingers and 10 little toes- I got from the Library.
  • I am special song (YouTube- Amulya Kids)
  • I mixed together 4 pairs of colorful socks and had him pick out pairs- Same same being the keyword. Reward- Bubbles of course!
  • Animals pretend play- we used plastic animals and cars and tried animals going for a drive.
  • Eid activity- On a paper plate I drew the moon and a star and had him stick stickers on teh moon and we colored the star with dot pens.
  • Science experiment- Filled a little bi of oil in a baking tray and had small bowls of milk + food color for him to take in a dropper and squeeze tiny drops into the oil. These would stand as separate drops and not mix and he moved them around with the dropper.
  • We had a jigsaw puzzle of numbers and letters that we tried arranging.
  • Act out a song- We did
  • I jump in the bathtub' from Cocomelon while taking a bath and 'If you are Happy and you know it' before bed.
  • Pretend playcars- we tried enacting a shopping scene with cars where the cars went to Walmart but this one caught his attention for only a few minutes. Will have to think of better scenes for the next time!
  • Animal movements- we did bunny hop, snake crawl, pig roll, frog jump, monkey crawl, bear crawl, dinosaur stomp. This one got a lot of giggles. One of the songs used- 'Stomp like an elephant, Stomp Stomp Stomp!'
  • Moon and stars- Tried speaking about the night and sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
  • Clips and Pompoms: Took some flour in the baking tray and tried writing/scribbling with the pompom between the cloth clip. This quickly became a hand to flour activity and created quite the mess but he had a lot of fun!
