April Activities in Detail
- Making a rainbow: we used sketch pens to colour a rainbow. Ms.Rachel has a Rainbow song he loves!
- Making a fort is a fun activity he enjoys! We just put a bedsheet over two chairs placed facing away from one another two feet away. He enjoys popping in and out of the bedsheet. We bring in a flashlight to ply inside it and a book.
- Pretend play - sleep- Bunny song was used to provide cues. Ms. Rachel has a bunny song- 'See the bunny sleeping'.
- Letters and farm animals- Taped animal toys and letters they start and hid them. We played a little scavenger hunt to find the animal and guessing game to guess the letter.
- Super hero play- Pretended to be super heroes with capes and pretended to shoot webs and climb up walls!
- Hamster song: Cocomelon has a pet song: 'She is the class pet, her name is JellyBean'. We love that song!
- Balloons on fan- Tied 3 balloons on the ceiling fan just out of his reach so he couldn't pull. Gave him a foam stick to hit the balloons.
- On the festival of Vishu we did a poem about Vishu found online.
- Feeding Bunny carrots: I cut out a Bunny from cardboard with a hole at the mouth and got him to decorate it on one day. The next day I gave him some orange felt pieces (carrot pieces) to feed the Bunny.
- Pompoms: I filled a ziplock bag with little water and drew on the bag some containers with numbers underneath. Idea was that he can use his fingers to direct the exact number of pompoms into the container as was written below it. Picture attached in gallery.
- Recycling: He helped me sort the recycling and we also watched the recycling episode on Cocomelon Lane.
- Spanish language day- It was spanish language day at his daycare so in that spirit we learnt how to count 1-5 in spanish.
- Bingo- I have a printout of pictures with two of the same for each and we get a reward (bubbles) when he finds a pair. Bingo!
- Comb and band play- I filled a cake pan with little water and ldropped some rubber bands in it. He used a comb to scoop out the rubberbands from the water using the comb's teeth.
- Ice cream stick counting- I have 5 colored icecream sticks with the number written on top and things tuck to it to match the number on top. So one has 1 feather on it, two has 2 green rectangles, three has 3 black circles on it, four has 4 white circles on it. I tried to speak to him about the color of the sticks, numbers, shapes stuck on them, their color and finally counting them.
Crafts:
- Card making: we tried painting of a plastic leaf and a four pointer to print on paper some leaves and flowers.
- Carrot painting- carrot printout with paint in a ziplock bag so he can paint with his fingers. Picture attached in gallery post.
- Easter egg painting- cut out a paper towel in shape of an egg and draw lines/ shapes/dots on it with sketch pens. Got him to spray/drop water on the paper towel so that the color spreads. He enjoyed the water play!
- Butterfly painting- I had a stencil of the butterfly and got him to pat paint all over it with a piece of paper to make the butterfly painting. We framed it as a gift to his grandmother.
- Earth day- I cut out paper in a circle and he used piece of paper to dab on it blue and green.
- Painting with cellophane - I took a cellophane square piece (same size as the paper/canvas I had) and I got him to help me color on it with sketchpens. Then we sprayed some water on it and placed it face front on the sheet of paper I had. The sketch pen colors blend when sprayed with water and transfer onto the paper, creating a colorful design on the paper.
Q-tip painting - I tied together 4 Q-tips so they kind of print a flower and he dipped it in paint and printed on a sheet of paper with it to make flowers.
